The College Counselor will demonstrate the ability to perform designated duties and work collaboratively with school administrators, students, parents, teachers and staff, and college admissions personnel. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to working with young people in their preparation for and transition between high school and university.

More about the American Creativity Academy:

  • The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and is an IB World School.
  • The academic curriculum is based on the Core American Standards Curriculum

College Counselor Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or School Counseling and/or
  • Master's degree in School Counseling (optional)
  • Preferred 1-2 years of experience. New grads welcome to apply.
  • Preferred teaching or counselor license.
  • Preferred American or Canadian candidate to support with our graduate's North American universities

College Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior high school students in making educational, occupational, and life plans that enhance their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible young adults.
  • Assist students overcome problems that impede their learning and act as a resource person for parents and faculty.
  • Orient teachers, students, and parents to the type of services available to them through the counseling program.
  • Maintain accurate records of students’ progress toward fulfilling high school graduation requirements and recommended courses for appropriate university applications.
  • Plan and implement a student counseling program that outlines procedures for:
    • Teachers to follow when recommending students for counseling;
    • The counseling process;
    • The reporting of results to parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Assist in academic advising and scheduling.
  • Organize PSAT preparation.
  • Coordinate standardized test administration including: ITBS, PSAT, registration and follow-up for SAT, TOEFL, Advanced Placement, and, for candidates applying to Kuwait University, the appropriate subject-specific admissions tests.
  • Work with students to prepare college application packets including proper forms and school records.
  • Work with registrar’s office to prepare leaving packets prior to graduation and up-to-date information in the permanent student records.
  • Update documents as noted above.
  • Maintain alumnae contact information and data.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student records.
  • Conduct in-service training for teachers in student guidance and counseling.
  • Keep up-to-date records of student scores on all standardized tests.
  • Ensure that students access all relevant information about college admission requirements and preparation for admission.
  • Make recommendations to the principal regarding students’ program placement and parent conferences.
  • Help individual students entering the senior high school years in planning an appropriate course selection.
  • Ensure senior high school student accumulate the required credits to meet all graduation requirements.
  • Liaise with a variety of North American colleges and institutions of higher learning in the Gulf to develop privileged partnerships between ACA and those institutions.
  • Acquaint students with career options after college.
  • Perform other counseling related duties as assigned by the College Counseling Center Coordinator or HS Principal
